Trump is now saying that he and Bibi make a good team, but he seems to be the team, and Bibi’s up on the wagon, cracking the whip.
And really, what is Iran supposed to say…”Thank you sir, may I have another?” Of course they are going to fulminate and bluster, and we’re going to laugh at it, but they’re still standing, the same people are in charge, and we’re still hoping that Iran will Regime Change itself. We cannot do it with boots on the ground, Iran’s perfidious neighbors will dare not risk trying, and despite Graceffo’s happy talk about Russia and China being standoffish, they’re not going to let the Mossad and CIA slither in, kill everyone who is inconvenient and install a pliant puppet. Eyes are wide open in Iran now.
Meanwhile, Iran has successfully drawn half of our navy into the region, where it will steam around, hoping for a fight which never comes, dropping the occasional fighter over the side, colliding with each other or the odd civilian freighter and burning billions of dollars a week.
So enjoy the moment, for when the media turns its eye elsewhere, events will occur which put the lie to the notion that all is well in the middle east now.

Iran’s focus will remain on Israel. They won’t be sidetracked by U.S. bombings of facilities that they have already vacated all of their critical material. That doesn’t mean they won’t wreak havoc. My best guess is that they will slow the flow of oil, not block it. It only takes the threat of disruption to get the insurance companies to halt operations and send prices spiraling upward. Huge economic damage that the West cannot abide. This two-pronged attack; keep pounding Israel and the economic damage for the west will bring the U.S. back to the negotiating table, on Iran’s terms.
Iran’s greatest overseas assets are in Latin America. They have built operational and terror training bases in Venezuela, complete with deep underground bunkers. Every Iranian embassy and consulate is setup to manage terrorist activities. The IRGC is closely integrated into drug trafficking and related cartels, as well as violent leftist organizations.
Preemptively destroying those bases in Venezuela would send a signal to any government in the region of what could be anticipated if they enabled, actively or passively, any action by the IRGC or its associates.
In the US, there are plenty of possible actors. The IRGC has maintained a surveillance and intimidation structure here, since before the revolution. Carter’s deportations surely interrupted many cells that could have caused a lot of problems, but the intervening decades have allowed many new cells to have been formed. Every Iranian visitor, student, immigrant, even Iranian-American, is a possible asset that can be activated through radicalization, or extortion.
Non-Iranian assets are numerous. There are plenty of crazies that relish the opportunity to punish the US for something…anything. A substantial payout would provide added incentive, if needed.
So, the Iranians could do something. They are not without resources. A response to equal what Trump did, however, is unlikely, though not impossible, with some help.
The problem for Iran, of course, is that Trump is not necessarily done doing things to them.
