Rogue Windmill Blade Crashes Onto Highway, Injuring One And Ruining Commutes

Daily Caller

A wind turbine blade slid off its moorings while a tractor-trailer was hauling it along an interstate highway in Maryland early Monday, causing a crash and snarling traffic for hours and miles, according to reports.

The crash temporarily closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near I-81 and two of the I-70’s eastbound lanes in Hagerstown, Washington County, causing significant delays, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT).

A picture of the incident accompanying the MDOT’s statement shows the blade — with its heavier end still on the back of the truck in the middle lane of the three westbound lanes — stretching across the grass median and onto the opposite lanes. Traffic was backed up behind the truck with what appeared to be emergency vehicles and a crane on the opposite lanes. read more

  1. The blade was doing extra work to save the environment by closing down the freeway preventing people for driving their polluting cars. The manufacture should charge extra for the added service the blade provided.

  3. That area is one of Maryland’s most congested areas on a regular day. Accidents are always happening there on what I call the Highways of Death.

Both Route 81 (North/South) and Route 70 (East/West) combined with feeder road Route 11 create backlogs and death traps daily. I avoid these roads at all cost and pray daily for those who frequent them.
