Newsom warns Trump his state could withhold federal taxes as president mulls reducing funding for CA

“Californians pay the bills for the federal government,” Newsom wrote in a post on X. “We pay over $80 BILLION more in taxes than we get back. Maybe it’s time to cut that off.”

  1. Go for it. ALL the states should withhold ALL their tax monies until there is a balanced budget, followed by annual surpluses that pay down the accumulated debt. No balanced budget, 50 state secession.

  2. I don’t know about the rest of the residents in California, but I send my Federal Taxes directly to the Feds and California doesn’t have shit to do with it. I think he’s eluding to sales tax of maybe property tax where the Feds traditionally match funds. I’m not sure Newsom really understands how this works. What am I missing? I hope Trump just goes scorched earth on these morons. July first our gas tax goes up 65 cents a gallon. To protect the environment. Bull shit. These idiots are so stupid and so inept gas tax is all that’s left for state revenue. These people couldn’t run a lemonade stand. You get what’s shoved down your throat

  3. Brad – several other governors have proposed this over the past decade. The process involves passing a law forcing every business to remit ALL income tax withholding, etc. to the state government versus the Treasury department. Yes, cumbersome and who knows the federal implications, but that was how they planned on doing it (or forcing it to be done).

  4. Mr. Liberty. That will last for about a minute and a half. It’s a Federal Tax. Filed with the Feds. I hope to God they try it. That attempt would possibly save California. Don’t think individual tax returns. Think corporate tax returns where the real money is. They’ll hang Nesome. He’ll finally be well hung . California sets the standard for most miss mismanaged state. All done by the appointed one who has eyes on the Presidency. Who is now running TV adds in California about how fucked up the current Governor is I’m not joking.

  5. I don’t disagree with the federal response, etc. just thought you should know how others proposed making it happen. And it has been several different governors from both parties if I remember right. It was in response to a variety of different acts of federal overreach.

Here’s their big problem. They’re is nothing in the construction to facilitate that. In fact they have no legal standing I can find anywhere. If you know different please educate me. Still sayen Newsom has no recourse. He’s one dumb MoFo. But it’s a damn good sound bite.

  7. More,
If the state of California tries to intercede check written to the IRS through the post office that’s a huge ass crime. Even worse if they try and iintercept electronic payment. Tell me I’m wrong. Those governors are dumber than dog shit. Just sayen.

  8. I should add for those that don’t know. Any sole proprietorship or corporation in our country is issued a federal tax payer identification number. Used for payroll to tax filings. Kind of curious how these idiot governors plan on defeating that.

  9. Maybe Nuisance thinks he’ll start a rebellion and get other leftist states to sign on.

What’ll be his rallying cry? “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Debt”….i.e., debt to the Federal Government.

Does anybody think Gov. Slick would consider giving that $80 billion back to the people of California? I say no way. He’ll use any savings to start another bullet train to nowhere.

  10. This is too stupid. The federal government will just file liens against the individuals and entities that owe federal taxes, and start seizing property.

  11. Nancy’s nephew need to consider how much federal money the “Golden” state actually consumes each year between the bases on California soil, and other federal activity.
Governor Hairgel should be careful and chose wisely.

  12. And to think that years ago, Senator Barry Goldwater only wanted a 20-year plan to let people opt out of the Social Security System. I was all for it.

Now, people are talking about opting out of The Union. I’m not sure anyone would actually know how to do that if they wanted to!

We don’t fix things that are broken. If we did, we would follow our own Constitution that prescribes how to do it.
