Massive sailing vessel collides with Brooklyn Bridge

Fox-

A naval training ship donning a massive Mexican flag crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City on Saturday night, sending passengers into the murky water.

Videos posted to social media appear to show the mast of the ship crashing into the bridge just before 8:30 p.m., as passengers and nearby onlookers screamed, prompting an immediate rescue operation on the East River for the injured and overboard passengers. more

  1. Mexican Navy training ship collides with Brooklyn Bridge!? What! US Maritime law is way too lax. Isn’t it enough Mexico invaded The United States by land, now they get to invade by sea. Yeah, “training” in US waters – sure why not. *sigh* This crap will never end.

  2. It hit the bridge deck stern first. Why was the ship going backwards? Did they lose power? I didn’t know the current was that fast if they were just going with the flow.

I wonder how long the ship will be up on blocks in the front yard while they fix the thing. Maybe they should turn it into a low sailer now to avoid future mastakes.

  3. “…donning the Mexican flag” lol couldn’t we just say “flying the Mexican flag”, journos? And why does it take four of you to write stories? This seems to be the norm in legacy media these days. Is it because DEI has made teams necessary in order to cover for the hires who can’t pull their weight? That’s how it was when my kids had team projects in school. There was always dead weight on the teams, but everybody got the same grade. Looks like that scheme has moved up into the workforce now.

  4. I see a tug boat on the other side.
Either it was being towed and somebody screwed up big time or the ship was drifting aimlessly in the harbor and the tug was trying to get it under control.

  5. Uncle Al, if it was low sailor it would need hydraulic lifts so it could jump up and down in the water, also a lot of chrome detailing and large fuzzy dice or baby shoes hanging from the mast and a mariachi band for musicians announcing their presence. And of course, the obligatory skull and crossbones pirate flag just because.

  6. ^^^ VFLEECE “Why is the ship of another country training in American waters?”

We let friendly countries “train” in U.S. waters all the time. During peace time all these trips are training. Doubly so for sailing ships as they are no county’s first line naval vessel (note to self check status of USS Constitution), ad reinforced that persons ending up in the water were described as “tourists”, which may be one of the polite pejoratives for Marines on a Navy ship, but probably not this time.

  7. I’ll put this here for all of us so y’all won’t have to:

Oh, no. I just read that two of Mexican cadets were killed in the accident. Now I feel bad about making light of the event. RIP señoras y señores.

Um, the jokes were pretty funny though.

I can’t tell you how many countries I’ve seen training/flight school at AF bases. If I remember correctly, some of em who we ain’t friendly with. Weird, huh?

  9. When I was in Navy boot camp in the fall of 1972 one of the recruits in my first company was a Jordanian national. He was the hairiest guy I ever met in my life who had to shave twice a day in order to stay clean cut like the rest of us.

  10. In 1970 I was finishing up my US Army stint at Ft. Benning. The army put on an artillery demo and invited a Russian general to observe.

I was thinking “What the Hell Damnation is this?”. Me and some other idiot were detailed to clean up the area and repaint the curbs on the road going to the range before the demo.
